At Covenant House Alaska, we recognize the importance of serving our youth's spiritual needs, as well as their physical and emotional needs. That is why pastoral ministry is an integral part of our organization. Our Pastoral Ministry services are by open invitation and available to all our youth, but is never forced upon them.
So many youth come to us with a great spiritual need – a need they can only describe as feeling "unloved, unwanted and uncared for." They find it hard to value themselves, when they believe no one else does. Young people come to us with difficult questions, such as, "Who is God?" "Is there a God?” “Why would God let these things happen to me?" "Does God really love me?" "Why is my life the way it is?" and "Why do you care about me?"
By offering prayer, education, guidance, patience, a listening ear and an open door, Covenant House Alaska's Pastoral Ministry Program helps youth fill the spiritual need in their lives. We guide them in finding answers to their questions in a way that is meaningful and challenging. We help youth explore the concepts of faith and spirituality. We help them find a way to use their faith as a source of strength in difficult times, and we make every effort to keep them connected to their own faith communities.
